About the Role

MoboTrex is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Design Engineer to join our team at our corporate headquarters. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for producing all design information required to buy, build, and install our products, translating customer specifications and industry knowledge into detailed drawings, bills of material, and work instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop electrical wiring diagrams for traffic signal control equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company practices.
  2. Translate various codes, such as MUTCD, NEMA, and UL, into practical design solutions for our products and processes.
  3. Generate mechanical drawings for panels, cables, cabinets, and cabinet layouts, or provide mechanical designers with the necessary information to complete the required design.
  4. Ensure that all drawings conform to standard industry and company practices.
  5. Generate and verify bills of material for assemblies and components.
  6. Develop cost estimates, including proposed design solutions, for customer requirements or sales requests.
  7. Create assembly or installation instructions for projects.
  8. Develop test procedures to verify component or system function when the design is new, untested, or to verify operation.
  9. Provide technical support as needed.
  10. Utilize CAD systems for all drawings and document archiving processes.
  11. Analyze technology trends and recommend changes or improvements in our products or offerings.
  12. Monitor design system technology and recommend changes when appropriate.
  13. Benchmark other industries and implement best practices.
  14. Document the design process from customer plans and specifications to Design Release.
  15. Document customer-specific preferences in a manner accessible and editable by others.
  16. Maintain key performance metrics, including lead time, on-time delivery, and quality reporting.
  17. Develop action plans to address issues and drive continuous improvement actions.
  18. Participate in MoboTrex User Group events and present solutions to customers to clarify proposals or consider new or alternative solutions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Knowledge of how to translate traffic system requirements into standard electrical design.
  • Knowledge of traffic products, controllers, software, and traffic designs preferred.
  • Experience with MUTCD specifications.
  • Experience with NEMA Traffic standard - ATC and Caltrans experience a plus.
  • Field Service experience in traffic systems preferred.
  • System integration experience a plus, with the ability to integrate multiple products from internal and external suppliers into a single operating system.
  • Knowledge and extensive use of Auto CAD preferred.
  • Ability to work under short deadlines and manage multiple/changing priorities.
  • Able to use electrical and electronic test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

The position requires sitting, talking, or hearing, and using hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. On occasion, the employee may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The position is primarily an office-based position with periodic visits to the production floor and occasional travel may be required.
