Special Education IEP Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled Special Education IEP Coordinator to join our team at The Foundation Schools.
About the Role:
The IEP Coordinator will oversee all aspects of the special education IEP process, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines. This role requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of special education law.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical training to IEP writing staff on Maryland and DC IEP systems.
- Supervise the development of all IEPs, including proofreading, editing, and making recommendations for revisions.
- Prepare for, schedule, and conduct all IEP-related meetings, ensuring timely notifications and documentation.
- Notify staff of meeting outcomes, update student databases, and maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with the Registrar, Education Director(s), and Clinical Director(s) to ensure quarterly IEP documentation is completed and distributed.
- Provide parents/guardians with required documents within specified timelines and file related documents in a timely manner.
- Assist with documentation of critical incidents as needed.
- Attend relevant state and local meetings/trainings on IEP development, coordination, transition planning, and state testing administration.
- Maintain positive working relationships with local school system representatives and stay up-to-date on educational interventions, resources, and special programming.
- Ensure students' files are maintained in inspection-ready condition, adhering to federal, state, and district regulations.
- Provide feedback to Clinical Director(s) and Education Director(s) regarding teachers' and therapists' performance in IEP-related meetings.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current special education regulations and guidelines, identifying changes to communicate to Education Director(s) and Principal.
- Understand how students' disabilities impact their behavior and ability to learn, ensuring IEPs reflect individual needs.
- Effectively manage student behavior through implementation of the behavior management system, school rules, policies, and procedures.
- Proactively identify behaviors that could lead to a crisis or disrupt the learning environment, using effective behavior management techniques to address these behaviors.
- Proactively provide supervision to ensure the safety and security of the school program at all times.
- Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with The Foundation Schools Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Statement and student record confidentiality procedures.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of verbal de-escalation skills and utilize the behavior continuum to employ the least restrictive behavioral interventions necessary.
- Actively participate in committees, meetings, supervision, and professional development activities.
- Model and implement the organization's core values to drive actions and guide students to incorporate Teamwork, Work Ethic, Integrity, Respect, and Leadership into positive behaviors.
- Comply with all of The Foundation Schools' policies, rules, protocols, and procedures.
About You:
We are looking for an experienced Special Education IEP Coordinator with a Master's degree in education, special education, or a related field. MSDE Certification or eligibility is required, and three years of teaching experience, writing IEPs, and/or attending IEP meetings are preferred. Knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements is essential, along with excellent oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency.
