Role Summary
As a Senior Phlebotomy Technician, your primary duties will include executing blood collection procedures, accurately labeling samples, and processing specimens through centrifugation. You will maintain meticulous records of equipment upkeep, ensure decontamination protocols are followed, and keep patient data current. A key aspect of your role will be to communicate the venipuncture process and other collection techniques effectively and compassionately to patients. You will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in using both straight and butterfly needles, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of all physician directives.
Key Responsibilities
- Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen containers, ensuring proper labeling and processing.
- Perform centrifugation, splitting, and freezing of specimens as dictated by testing requirements.
- Safeguard specimen integrity by packaging them appropriately for transport and adhering to storage temperature guidelines.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations, participate in annual training sessions, and manage telephone inquiries regarding laboratory results.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification in accordance with state regulations.
- A minimum of 6 months' experience in a clinical laboratory or hospital environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with a high volume of patient draws, exceeding 20 per day.
- Exceptional ability to explain procedures to patients in a clear manner.
- Strong background in customer service.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new processes.
This position requires full-time on-site presence.
