About the Role

Colgate University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Head Animal Care Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the animal care facility, ensuring the proper maintenance and care of housed animals, and implementing faculty-specific research protocols.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage inventory levels of subject animals, oversee the upkeep of cages, tanks, life support systems, cleaning equipment, and experimental apparatus associated with animal care. A working knowledge of relevant OSHA, USDA, PHS, and other safety regulations is essential, as well as the ability to maintain facilities up to the standards set by both the NYSDOH and USDA.

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, who can effectively train and supervise colleagues in the animal care facility. The successful candidate will also serve as a voting member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), providing feedback on protocols and conducting regular inspections of all animal care spaces.
