Position Overview:
This role involves part-time engagement within the lecturer candidate pool, non-tenurial, with assignments determined by the availability of funds and staffing needs. Classes may be scheduled during the day, evening, or on weekends, both on-campus and off-campus.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver in-person instruction in Chemistry under general oversight.
  • Maintain weekly office hours of at least one hour for each course instructed.
  • Develop course outlines and reports concerning teaching and student performance.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors in the discipline area under the guidance of the division chairperson.
  • Gather student and peer evaluations and conduct a self-assessment of teaching effectiveness.
  • Fulfill instructional responsibilities that may include day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach (such as Early College), and/or distance education classes.
  • Uphold the principles and philosophy of community colleges.
  • Engage effectively with a diverse student and community population in alignment with institutional policies and the open-admission concept.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • CHEMISTRY: A Master's degree in Chemistry is required.
All degrees must be obtained from an accredited institution. In cases where qualified applicants are unavailable, those who do not meet minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in community college teaching.
  • Experience in multi-cultural teaching environments.
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring, advising, or leading teams.
  • Evidence of a supportive approach to student learning and the ability to foster an inclusive and equitable classroom or work environment for students or colleagues from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Understanding of issues pertinent to Native Hawaiians or other indigenous populations and the local community, including the unique economic, political, business, and cultural context of Hawai`i.
  • Capability to incorporate writing assignments and integrate critical thinking skills into course content as a fundamental aspect of students' learning activities.
