The Core Platform team is responsible for managing millions of API requests that power various aspects of Reddit, including Consumer, Machine Learning, Advertising, and Safety surfaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of our Core Systems, preparing for the next four years of growth and scalability at Reddit.
  • Identify deficiencies in current designs and spearhead redesign initiatives for our Core Platform to enhance Developer Velocity and support Reddit's expansion.
  • Establish best practices and set them as standards for developers across the organization.
  • Serve as the primary resource for developers facing complex challenges in backend service development within the data domain.
  • Guide technically adept peers throughout the development journey.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of building sustainable software systems within a large-scale engineering environment.
  • Over 10 years of software development experience, including at least 5 years in a cloud environment (AWS/GCP). Proficiency in at least two programming languages.
  • Proven experience in influencing technical direction and best practices within large organizations (500+ engineers).
  • A passion for creating scalable, well-architected software that enhances the developer experience while ensuring seamless support for scale and reliability.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including design, product, business, and data teams, to deliver exceptional user experiences.
  • A strong focus on user experience, usability, scalability, reliability, and quality. You are a dedicated advocate for users, with a keen understanding of how people and machines interact with software at scale.
  • High empathy, excellent communication skills, and the ability to negotiate compromises across the entire engineering organization.
