A Day in the Life of a Speech Language Pathologist

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will evaluate, plan, and administer medically prescribed or educationally relevant speech therapy treatment to clients in their homes or students in their respective educational environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively monitoring and amending patient visit schedules to maximize productivity and patient need.
  • Performing comprehensive assessments of assigned patients, including psychosocial, educational, safety, and risk factor parameters.
  • Developing plans of care to promote optimal functional independence and safety.
  • Providing skilled speech-language therapy treatment, including therapeutic techniques and patient/caregiver education.
  • Coordinating patient care with other clinical team members, including physicians, nurses, caregivers, and other rehab services.
  • Filling out and completing insurance paperwork.
  • Assessing patients' needs for HCA services and developing and coordinating plans of care.
  • Coordinating safe patient discharges and transfers.
