Job Title: Adaptive Physical Education Teacher

Rebecca School LLC is seeking a qualified Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to join our team. As an Adaptive PE Teacher, you will work with students aged 3 to 21 with neurodevelopmental delays in relating, communicating, and thinking.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide adaptive physical education to each classroom twice per week
  • Maintain equipment in the gym
  • Clean equipment and clear the gym for Greenspan set-up
  • Arrange swimming program; accompany and arrange staff for weekly swimming
  • Teach two health classes per week
  • Supervise the outdoor segment of bussing three days per week
  • Plan and organize PE-related days and events (e.g., Jersey Day and Stairs Week)
  • Collaborate with Community Resource Coordinator to arrange special events
  • Member of the Crisis Team
  • Monitor and train staff and students on proper use of gym equipment and implement modifications when necessary
  • Attend occupational, physical therapy, and education department meetings once per month
  • Participate in weekly teacher meetings, team meetings, Greenspan meetings, and supervision meetings
  • Maintain professional competence by attending staff development programs and continuing education programs
  • Ensure safety of students
Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Adapted Physical Education or Physical Education
  • NY State License in A.P.E. or P.E.
  • Experience with the DIRFloortime method (or open to learning it)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and parents
