Aptive Resources is in search of skilled Renal Care Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our dedicated team. The Renal Care RNs will deliver holistic care to individuals suffering from end-stage renal disease (ESRD) under the guidance of the nurse manager. This position entails the organization and provision of care in both acute and intensive care environments.

Work Schedule: Nurses can anticipate working hours ranging from 0630 to 1900, Monday through Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care:

  • Coordinate and provide care for patients with ESRD.
  • Conduct pre-dialysis evaluations, including vital signs monitoring and vascular access assessment.
  • Monitor dialysis access for indications of failure or infection.
  • Perform post-dialysis evaluations, document medication administration, assess vascular access condition, and discharge patients when vital signs are stable.
  • Educate patients regarding their medical conditions and treatment plans.

Clinical Procedures:

  • Supervise the setup of the delivery system, dialysate bath, and dialyzer.
  • Ensure mandatory alarm tests on the dialyzer and equipment are completed.
  • Assess, prepare, and cannulate patients' vascular access using sterile techniques.
  • Administer dialysis-related intravenous and oral medications as prescribed.
  • Monitor and test dialysis water treatment equipment.
  • Conduct treatments and diagnostic tests, including blood sugar testing.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Review physician orders and patient records prior to dialysis.
  • Document findings from patient assessments, interventions, and significant changes in patient condition.
  • Counsel patients on and administer vaccines according to protocols.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Professional Standards:

  • Maintain skills necessary for regional heparinization, blood sample storage, and dialysis equipment upkeep.
  • Exhibit knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests, medications, and infection control protocols.
  • Comply with national guidelines and facility protocols for immunization of dialysis patients.

Emergency Response:

  • Provide assistance during emergency situations.
  • Respond appropriately and lead efforts to enhance patient care and uphold care standards.

Leadership:

  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities as required.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and data collection for the dialysis unit's Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan.
  • Collaborate closely with the dialysis team and engage in interdisciplinary team meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license from any state in the United States.
  • Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support (ACLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years' experience performing hemodialysis on hospitalized patients in an acute setting. Experience with dialysis of patients in an intensive care unit setting. Must have worked within the last six months in a dialysis setting.
  • Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field, or a Master's Degree in Nursing or related field is highly preferred.
  • Ability to complete and successfully pass any required government background check.

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of the Electrocardiogram Course.
  • Familiarity with the Gambro Dialysis Machine.
