Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Category Manager to join our team at PPL Services Corporation. As a key member of our procurement team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic sourcing initiatives to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop negotiation strategies and company positions on complex contracts, working closely with the Office of General Counsel to ensure appropriate commercial protection.
  • Perform market analysis and financial analysis to determine business risk associated with suppliers and contracts, mitigating risk through hedging, performance and payment bonds, or parental guarantees.
  • Analyze and develop company positions on claims and disputes, consulting with senior management to resolve and negotiate complex procurements.
  • Manage the supply chain process from specification to contract negotiation, execution, and administration, evaluating sources of supply and developing optimal pricing methodologies.
  • Identify new sources of supply and emerging technologies, establishing and maintaining professional relationships with suppliers and partners based on the highest ethical business practices.
  • Be the corporate expert for assigned categories, knowing market drivers, supplier bases, emerging technologies, regulatory factors, and category spend by supplier.
  • Award contracts up to $3,000,000 on individual procurements, acting as primary liaison to suppliers within assigned categories.
  • May be assigned an emergency and storm role, working after-hours and on-site or remotely as required.
Qualifications

This position may be hired at the Intermediate Category Manager or Senior Category Manager level, based on the successful candidate's background, education, and experience.

  • Basic Qualifications - Intermediate Category Manager
    • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or related field, or 5 years related experience.
    • Minimum of 2 years of services buying experience.
    • Supply Chain and market knowledge of described services.
    • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, and related legal issues.
  • Basic Qualifications - Senior Category Manager
    • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, supply chain, or related field, or 8 years related experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of services buying experience.
    • Supply Chain and market knowledge of products, equipment, and services.
    • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, and related legal issues.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in Electric and Gas Utility supply chain (Distribution and/or Transmission and Substations).
    • Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (C.P.S.M). or other Supply Chain Certification.
    • Background in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement models.
    • Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
    • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases.
    • Demonstrated problem-assessment and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong customer service focus supporting an operating company, with ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers.
    • Proven project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
