Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) delivers anesthesia care across various patient demographics at Virginia Commonwealth University Health.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Valid RN license in Virginia
- Active CRNA license in Virginia
- Certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
Ongoing Employment Requirements:
- Maintain current RN license in Virginia
- Valid CRNA license in Virginia
- Complete 40 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) biennially
- Credentialing as per medical staff by-laws for the specific role
Experience:
- Required: No prior experience necessary
- Preferred: Experience in an academic healthcare setting or one year in the specialty practice area
Educational Qualifications:
- Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution focused on the relevant practice area. Candidates with current advanced practice licensure may be within one semester of completing their MSN or higher, which must be finalized within six months of employment to retain the position.

Independent Responsibilities:
Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations, along with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, is essential. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to compliance with VCUHS policies and customer service standards.
