At South Dakota State University, we are seeking an experienced veterinary anatomic pathologist to join our faculty as an Assistant Professor in Food Animal Pathology. This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track position that offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth and development. About the Opportunity

We are looking for a highly qualified individual with expertise in food animal pathology to lead an active research program, teach undergraduate and graduate students, and provide diagnostic services. The successful candidate will be expected to establish collaborations with external and internal stakeholders, publish peer-reviewed papers, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. A strong background in food animal production in the United States and excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead an active research program focusing on food animal infectious disease pathogenesis and prevention, and/or diagnostic test development.
  • Teach basic and systemic pathology courses to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide timely diagnostic pathology services, including necropsy, histopathology, and interpretation of ancillary tests, for mammalian and avian specimens.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must hold a DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree by the start date, advanced graduate degree (MS or PhD) in veterinary pathology or a closely related field, completion of formal residency training in anatomic pathology, and eligibility for or certification by ACVP or ECVP. Additionally, they must demonstrate the ability to establish an extramurally funded research program, collaborate with external and internal stakeholders, produce peer-reviewed publications, and teach at the collegiate and/or professional school level.
