The Certified Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role in the accurate assessment of specimen requests and the entry of clinical data into various information systems. This position is responsible for identifying and rectifying any discrepancies in data entry. The technician will operate both automated and semi-automated laboratory instruments in accordance with established protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to the OneCHRISTUS Competencies, demonstrating leadership qualities in self-management and team collaboration.
- Ensure precise documentation of laboratory activities, including processing logs, quality control measures, and reagent labeling.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of laboratory instruments and glassware.
- Oversee the inventory and distribution of laboratory supplies.
- Prepare laboratory biohazard waste for disposal in compliance with safety standards.
- Manage the supply of laboratory coats.
- Handle the ordering, receiving, stocking, shipping, and tracking of laboratory materials and equipment.
- Monitor the functionality of laboratory equipment, coordinating repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Keep records of equipment calibrations and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of consumables and reagents.
- Assist in the proper disposal of biohazardous and chemical waste.
- Support the enforcement of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Promote safety practices regarding personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Follow established guidelines for safety, infection control, compliance, and the handling of hazardous materials.
A high school diploma is required, with an Associate of Science Degree preferred. A foundational understanding of microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry related to infectious diseases is essential. Candidates should possess one to three years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment. Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (PHLEB) is mandatory, along with state licensure as required.
