Must-Have: Ability to titrate cardiac drips; must pass a dysrhythmia exam (with a maximum of 2 attempts) prior to the start. Passing a Sim Lab on day one of orientation is also required.
Job Description:
Job Overview
- Flexible Floating: Nurses will float between Telemetry and Medical-Surgical units, occasionally to ICU or Cardiac Telemetry, and other holding areas. Floating may occur mid-shift and between campuses.
- Patient Care: Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:3-4. Nurses must interpret EKGs effectively.
- Common Diagnoses: Includes post-catheterization lab, vascular procedures, Day 2 CABG, neuro post-surgical, spine, CVAs post-TPA, general telemetry, and MedSurg patients.
- Team Structure: Each unit has a charge nurse with no patient assignment and a clinical supervisor. Support from PCTs varies depending on the unit and time of day.
- Hospital Features: Centralized telemetry, 24/7 respiratory therapy, pharmacy services available at all times, and a hospitalist available.
- Orientation: Includes two days of floor-specific training to familiarize with unit operations and patient care processes.
- Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Work every other weekend and fulfill one major and minor holiday requirement per shift schedule.
- Work Environment: Professional attire in navy scrubs, spectrally linked phones for communication, and centralized tele monitors for patient monitoring.
- Charting System: Cerner system utilized for documentation.
