Position Overview

In this role, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will operate under general supervision and collaborate closely with physicians to execute responsibilities aligned with their educational background, clinical expertise, and established standards of advanced practice nursing. Key responsibilities include administering anesthetics and adjunct medications to ensure patients are pain-free, monitoring patient conditions during anesthesia, initiating corrective actions based on professional judgment, and functioning as a collaborative team member in preoperative assessments, anesthetic management, and post-anesthesia care.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Build rapport with patients and their families, providing clear and concise explanations regarding anesthetic options, risks, and benefits.
  2. Collaborate with physicians to create individualized anesthetic care plans based on thorough patient evaluations and procedural requirements.
  3. Assess and ensure the integrity of all necessary equipment and supplies before anesthesia initiation.
  4. Determine the necessity for invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques and select appropriate equipment for patient care.
  5. Implement the anesthetic plan, administering various anesthetic agents to maintain patient comfort and safety.
  6. Monitor fluid and blood loss during procedures, administering fluids and blood products as needed.
  7. Continuously observe patients according to established guidelines, documenting significant events during anesthesia.
  8. Transport patients to recovery, providing a comprehensive report on their condition to recovery personnel.
  9. Evaluate and discharge patients from recovery based on established criteria, summarizing their post-anesthetic condition.
  10. Provide emergency support and resuscitative care as required throughout the facility.
  11. Demonstrate proficiency in using anesthetic equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and reporting any defects.
  12. Engage in ongoing professional development and serve as a resource for other healthcare personnel.
  13. Participate actively in managing patients with acute and chronic pain in collaboration with physicians.
  14. Contribute to educational experiences by mentoring students and healthcare staff.
  15. Maintain knowledge of DMC policies and actively participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
  16. Conduct research and utilize findings to enhance clinical practices and patient outcomes.
  17. Integrate clinical skills with fiscal responsibility and provide leadership in departmental initiatives.
  18. Mentor and precept individuals involved in patient care.
  19. Engage in community activities that align with the organization's mission.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Completion of an accredited anesthesia program.
  • National CRNA certification and/or re-certification.
  • Valid Michigan nursing license.
  • Michigan Specialty Certification in Anesthesia.
  • Current membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Master's degree in anesthesia or a related field is preferred.
