Position Overview

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Terracon, you will play a pivotal role in delivering engineering and consulting solutions for diverse transportation projects throughout Kentucky. Your responsibilities will encompass leading geotechnical and pavement-focused field assessments, conducting engineering analyses, and providing comprehensive recommendations. You will also be tasked with preparing detailed reports, monitoring project timelines and budgets, troubleshooting design and construction challenges, and effectively communicating complex engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to safety protocols and standards for all assignments, engaging in pre-task planning and reporting any safety concerns to management.
  • Ensure quality assurance across all projects.
  • Manage and execute small to medium-scale projects, as well as more intricate assignments.
  • Define the scope of work for routine projects.
  • Develop cost estimates, specifications, and relevant project documentation.
  • Analyze data and perform necessary engineering calculations.
  • Oversee field investigations, laboratory testing, and data evaluation, leading to actionable recommendations.
  • Formulate plans and schedules, coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work.
  • Collaborate closely with senior project managers to enhance project management and engineering expertise.
  • Provide design recommendations and modifications as needed.
  • Prepare work scopes, proposals, and reports, and plan investigations for senior-level approval on routine projects.
  • Act as a technical mentor to junior project team members.
  • Supervise field personnel, including graduate engineers, technicians, exploration teams, and laboratory staff.
  • Engage with clients and project teams to define service scopes and communicate project progress.
  • Operate under the guidance of an Authorized Project Reviewer.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification required, with the ability to obtain Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Certification:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
