Job Summary:

The Steward position at Houston Methodist is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in the central kitchen and patient tray line. This role performs various tasks related to dishwashing, sanitation, and food preparation, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate dishwashing equipment, sort and rinse dishes, and transport clean tray components to designated areas.
  • Wash and sanitize equipment, floors, and walls in the dish room and adjoining areas.
  • Transport trash, garbage, cardboard, and supplies to assigned areas.
  • Work in the pot room washing pots manually and by machine, following established procedures.
  • Serve patient trays efficiently, accurately, and neatly, following proper procedures for loading and transporting food trucks.
  • Assemble trays for patients on the Patient Tray line as needed, plating established portions of foods as indicated on the patient's menu.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • One year experience in food service or housekeeping preferred.
  • Food Handlers Permit required, obtained through an accredited food handler training course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services or the American National Standards Institute.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, and move frequently.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates active listening skills, giving full attention to what other people are saying.
  • Working knowledge of Serve Safe guidelines and Health department standards.
  • Knowledge of kitchen/food service equipment and sanitation principles.
