Requirements:

General Purpose:
Under general supervision, engage in entry-level professional public health activities to support the assigned division or program.

Typical Duties:
Collect and analyze reportable disease data from various sources to identify patterns and determine the necessity for further investigation.


Key Responsibilities:

Conduct interviews with patients, contacts, healthcare providers, and laboratory personnel to gather personal information, clinical history, potential exposure sources, and laboratory data. Review medical records as needed and complete case reports to maintain investigative records. Coordinate the collection and delivery of samples to laboratories for analysis. Identify disease sources, monitor isolation or quarantine as necessary, and provide referrals for testing, treatment, and education.

Deliver prompt, thorough, and confidential follow-up via telephone or field visits to individuals requiring medical evaluation due to abnormal test results or disease exposure. Keep supervisors informed about trends or factors critical to community health. Provide information to the department and other agencies to assist in investigations and prevent disease spread.

Educate and counsel individuals and groups on the epidemiology of reportable diseases, transmission modes, and prevention strategies. Assist in control activities during disease outbreaks and conduct educational presentations on specific topics in both formal and informal settings.


Additional Responsibilities:

Organize and prepare educational materials on public health topics, including child health, consumer health, communicable diseases, environmental health, preventable diseases, and nutrition. Provide nutrition and health information at outreach events, including community gatherings and health fairs. Support staff training and continuing education programs to enhance departmental expertise.

Coordinate the availability of faculty, equipment, and materials for training sessions. Distribute promotional materials to stimulate interest in nutrition, public health, and safety education. Speak to community organizations on nutrition, health, or safety topics. Assist in public awareness campaigns with media and civic groups to foster public interest in health education issues.

May supervise clinic activities, ensuring adherence to daily routines and understanding of policies and procedures. Dispense medications as directed, maintain records, and prepare reports using computer systems for data entry. Conduct hemoglobin and hematocrit tests and supervise assigned staff.


Involves:
Schedule, assign, instruct, guide, and review work. Evaluate employee performance, provide training and development, enforce personnel rules, and maintain workplace harmony. Interview applicants and recommend hiring, terminations, transfers, and other personnel actions. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
