Literacy Coach

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Reading Specialist to join our team at Mobile County Public School System. As a Reading Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting teachers in developing and implementing instructional strategies that cater to the diverse needs of students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with teachers to design and implement literacy instruction that meets the needs of remedial, average, and advanced students.
• Provide coaching and support to develop model literacy classrooms and build school-based literacy content capacity.
• Identify and develop instructional materials to stimulate learning and meet the needs of all students.
• Model the effective use of technology to support instruction and student learning.
• Promote literacy instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated, and based on varied assessment sources.
• Cultivate a community of adult learners who value collaborative problem-solving.
• Foster a professional development environment that promotes the growth of all adults for the purpose of enhancing student success.
• Analyze instruction and prioritize needs to determine next steps for teachers.
• Develop instructional capacity to support high student achievement across the curriculum.

Qualifications:

• Valid Alabama Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Reading, or Special Education (K-12).
• Previous experience as a classroom teacher in Elementary grades (minimum of 3 years).
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective time management and organizational skills.
• High level of integrity and commitment to job responsibilities.
• Knowledge of literacy content and learning theory.
