About the Role

The University of Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Associate Health Physicist to join its Radiation Safety Program and Laser Safety Program. The successful candidate will provide critical support to these programs, ensuring the safe management and disposal of radioactive materials and the implementation of laser safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct surveys and audits to ensure compliance with government and University policies and procedures.
  • Provide radiation safety training to University and Medical Center staff.
  • Assist with the waste management program and perform other assigned tasks under the supervision of the Director, Associate Director, Laser Safety Officer, and/or Health Physicist(s).
  • Conduct risk analysis on the University's environmental and occupational health and safety programs and implement alternatives or improvements to current programs.
Requirements
  • Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through experience in radiation protection and laser safety are highly desirable.
  • Eligibility to obtain certification for unescorted access to radioactive materials in quantities of concern is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related science field, strongly preferred with 2 years of experience in Radiation Protection.
  • Experience in laser safety program desired.
