Job Summary

This is a full-time position responsible for assisting nursing staff with basic care of patients, patient flow, and general clinical duties under the direction of the charge nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist nurses with gathering medical history information, including obtaining information from various hospital and laboratory systems.
  • Room patients in the office, take weight and vital signs, and obtain history from the patient and document in the medical record.
  • Accurately enter patient's medications and allergies on the medication list and keep them current.
  • Help stock department equipment and supplies.
  • Take phone messages for the department.
  • Assist physicians with procedures, such as sigmoidoscopy.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a medical assistant.
  • Basic nursing skills.
  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Skill in appropriately taking vital signs and weights.
  • Skill in maintaining a clutter-free, organized exam area.
  • Skill in using electronic medical records to check patient history.
  • Skill in operating the office telephone system.
Physical Demands

Medium duty. 50 pounds, maximum lifting with frequent lift/carry up to 25 pounds. Requires standing for long periods while sitting for others. Repetitive hand/arm movements. Required to wear appropriate PPE. Assisting patients on and off procedure tables. This role has direct patient contact.
