Job Title: Teacher Assistant I North Hollywood

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Assistant I to join our team at Volunteers of America Los Angeles. As a key member of our Early Head Start program, you will play a vital role in providing a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children to thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the program curriculum for children enrolled in morning and afternoon classes, planning individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote parent involvement.
  • Work cooperatively with the Co-Teacher and Family Advocate to provide information and resources to enrolled families.
  • Integrate various HS services into the learning, such as parent involvement, social services, nutrition, health, and mental health services.
  • Conduct daily classroom planning, maintain children's records, and submit accurate monthly paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Observe, screen, and assess child development levels, developing goals that relate to the children's individual needs.
  • Provide a planned program of activities that supports and enhances the role of parents as the prime educators of their children.
  • Ensure a learning environment that reflects the varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children and the larger communities and societies in which they live.
  • Meet state and local licensing requirements and the health and safety needs of the children.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 24 CD units in Early Child Education/Child Development
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to interact with children in a busy environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, frequently kneeling and squatting, and moving quickly

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AA in ECE/CD with 24 units in CD OR AA in related field with 24 CD units, including 6 units of infant/toddler for EHS
  • Associate Teacher Child Development Permit or higher
  • 1 year of teaching experience
  • Creative curriculum
  • Bilingual English and Spanish (written and verbal)
