Patrol Officer

Job Summary

The City of Athens is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Patrol Officer to join our team. As a Patrol Officer, you will be responsible for preserving and protecting the quality of life of our citizens through a range of professional police services.

This is a full-time, bargaining unit position in the classified service of the City, and is non-exempt under the provision of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to calls for service and patrol assigned areas in a cruiser or other means.
  • Investigate complaints and vehicle accidents, and interview witnesses and suspects.
  • Issue citations and/or arrests violators of the law, and prepare and/or serve civil processes.
  • Secure and protect prisoners, and participate in crime prevention programs.
  • Prepare written reports on complaints, investigations, and accidents, and testify in court when required.
Requirements
  • A felony conviction is prohibited.
  • Must be a resident of Ohio at time of appointment.
  • Must maintain a valid State of Ohio driver's license.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and under the age of 41, at the time of appointment to be eligible for employment.
