Job Summary:The Corrections Officer will be responsible for maintaining security within the Zanesville City Jail, controlling prisoner behavior, and ensuring the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain jail security and control prisoner behavior
- Monitor and supervise prisoners during meals, sleeping, recreation, and other activities
- Control and restrain inmates to prevent harm to themselves or others
- Report and respond to unusual conditions or occurrences
- Monitor visits from attorneys, clergy, health nurses, family, friends, and others
- Conduct head counts and randomly inspect jail dorm living areas
- Operate Central Control Board and electronic locks
- Book inmates, frisk and secure prisoners, and take fingerprints and mugshots
- Inventory and intake money and property, and prepare records of receipt
- Release prisoners as authorized and in accordance with procedure
- High school degree, GED, or equivalent
- 18 years of age or more
- Completion of Corrections Course through OPOTA or qualified technical school (not a requirement to apply)
- Certified as a Corrections Officer from the State of Ohio (not a requirement to apply)
- State motor vehicle operator's license
The Corrections Officer will work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of security and control. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
