Job Description

The Backbone Architect is a critical role at Flexential, responsible for designing and implementing the network infrastructure that supports our colo, cloud, and managed services products. This position requires a deep understanding of networking protocols and the ability to make architectural decisions based on business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement solutions for the Flexential network infrastructure with high availability and optimal performance.
  • Evaluate multiple vendors and their engineering specifications/requirements to ensure alignment with business strategies.
  • Troubleshoot and support complex routing and switching issues and problems.
  • Integrate internal and external solutions into the architecture and manage related projects.
  • Establish and document standards, policies, and procedures for the network infrastructure.
  • Provide technical support and training to Operations, Product, and Client Services on related technologies.
Requirements
  • In-depth understanding of networking protocols such as OSPF, BGP, MPLS, Segment Routing, spanning-tree, EVPN, and FHRP.
  • Fundamental understanding of project management principles to effectively lead projects.
  • Strong communication skills to align multi-functional teams and objectives.
  • Ability to balance requirements from the business and operations with insight to industry trends.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Desire to grow and learn new technologies.
  • Knowledge of change management practices.
  • Extensive experience with IPv4 and IPv6 addressing.
  • Extensive experience working with Cisco IOS-XR.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Some programming language and fundamental knowledge (Python, Perl, etc.).
  • BA/BS education.
  • Service provider experience.
  • Professional level network certifications (CCIE, JNCIE).
