Position Overview

Michael Baker International is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves providing comprehensive engineering design services for a diverse range of transportation initiatives, including but not limited to highways, bridges, trails, and greenways. Your expertise will be crucial in developing engineering studies, design plans, construction documents, and detailed reports. More seasoned candidates will have the chance to take on responsibilities as task managers or project managers for various projects.

The selected candidate will integrate into Michael Baker International's Transportation Department, collaborating with highway, bridge, bicycle/pedestrian designers, community planners, and traffic engineers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the creation of designs, calculations, technical reports, and drawings for highway and bridge projects tailored to a variety of clients.
  • Conduct field visits to project locations to assess, document, and photograph existing conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers to finalize the design and analysis of roadways, bridges, trails, sidewalks, and other transportation infrastructures.
  • Prepare quantity calculations and estimates for construction costs.
  • Utilize design software to effectively apply engineering principles in the preparation of construction and right-of-way plan sets.
  • Investigate solutions and document findings through research.
  • Gain insight into the processes involved in assembling transportation project contract documents.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits.
  • Oversee tasks and mentor junior staff members.
  • Contribute to proposals for new projects.
  • Engage with clients and participate in project meetings.

Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in highway engineering under a licensed professional.
  • Possession of a P.E. license in Pennsylvania.
  • Experience with PennDOT, county, municipal, or city projects is advantageous.
  • Preferred experience and/or coursework in transportation engineering, highway/bridge engineering, bicycle/pedestrian design, and water resources/stormwater design.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective decision-making, organizational, and editing capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team and manage project priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with CADD software; experience with Bentley MicroStation and InRoads V8i Select Series 4 / Open Roads is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation

The compensation range for this position is estimated between $105,000 and $120,000. This range serves as a good faith estimate for the role at the time of posting, with actual compensation influenced by factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and work location.
