Music Therapy Internship Program

We are seeking highly motivated and dedicated music therapy interns to join our team at Lakeview Hospital. As a music therapy intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a variety of clinical settings, working with patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Program Overview

Our music therapy internship program is a comprehensive, six-month program that provides interns with the skills and knowledge necessary to become a confident and competent music therapist. Throughout the program, interns will work closely with our experienced music therapy team to develop their clinical skills, learn new techniques, and gain exposure to a wide range of clinical settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide music therapy sessions to patients in accordance with American Music Therapy Association National Roster Internship guidelines
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement music therapy plans
  • Assist with music therapy research projects and program development
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to enhance clinical skills and knowledge

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy from an American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) approved program
  • Excellent proficiency on piano or guitar and good proficiency on one other chordal accompaniment instrument
  • Good vocal skills, such as pleasant tone and ability to sing accurately on pitch
  • Ability to sight read music from a Fake Book (melody and chords) with adequate proficiency
  • Ability to independently assess and treat patients who may be non-verbal, unresponsive, imminently dying, or have communication or cognitive impairments
