Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General)

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General) to join our team at Mt Vernon Developmental Center. As a LPN General, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare team.

Job Summary:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN General) will be responsible for administering nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. This includes performing various medical procedures, assisting in emergencies, administering medication, and maintaining medication accountability records.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor.
  • Perform various medical procedures such as administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, reinserting gastrostomy tubes, and irrigating wounds.
  • Assist in emergencies by providing first-aid, performing CPR, and restraining patients when necessary.
  • Administer controlled and non-controlled medication in oral, rectal, topical, or injectable form, and provide medication instructions to patients.
  • Maintain medication accountability records, including charting patient records, preparing and counting medication, and maintaining medication stock and medical equipment.
  • Observe, document, and report patient conditions such as medication reactions, treatment responses, and behavior progress, and prepare related reports and records.
  • Provide general nursing, direct care, and programming assistance, including taking patient vital signs, assisting with personal grooming and hygiene, and daily living activities.
  • Reposition patients, respond to patient alarms, make medical appointments for patients, escort patients, and assist with recreational activities.
  • Provide guidance and training to lower-level direct care staff in providing general unskilled nursing care.
  • Participate in meetings such as staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training programs, and nursing meetings as assigned.
  • Order medication and medical supplies, clean nursing stations and medication room/medication cart, and perform clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing.
