Position Summary:
The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in offering guidance, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities to educational staff, aiming to elevate the standard of education and care provided to children. This position involves working closely with educators to exemplify effective practices, observe classroom dynamics, deliver constructive evaluations, and facilitate continuous training. The ultimate goal is to cultivate an environment of ongoing enhancement and reflective practices, ensuring that every child benefits from high-quality early childhood education in a supportive and nurturing setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Coaching Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture positive, trusting relationships with educational staff.
- Collaborate with Education Managers and Human Resource personnel to design and execute a continuous professional development strategy for educational staff, emphasizing culturally responsive approaches.
- Implement practice-based coaching methodologies.
- Ensure adherence to program standards in alignment with State Licensing, Head Start Program Performance Standards, and State QRIS guidelines.
- Partner with Education Managers to assist staff in achieving the agency's educational readiness objectives.
- Guide staff in integrating insights from training sessions, workshops, and conferences into their daily routines.
- Coach educators on curriculum frameworks and assessment tools as directed by Education Managers.
- Enhance teachers' understanding and application of effective teaching methodologies in their classrooms.
- Work collaboratively with staff to set individual and classroom goals.
- Create tailored coaching plans for educators and classroom teams.
- Coordinate with management to provide staff with essential materials and resources to implement their coaching strategies.
- Conduct in-classroom evaluations and assessments of teaching methodologies, interactions with children, and classroom environments.
- Engage in regular reflective discussions with teaching staff, offering constructive feedback and planning support.
- Analyze data from assessment tools and communicate staff needs to management.
Teaching Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate effective practices and strategies in the classroom to engage children and enhance their learning and development.
- Assist in monitoring children's progress and relevant data.
- Collaborate with Education Managers to review curriculum plans and provide technical assistance as needed.
- Offer supportive services within the classroom as a substitute educator when required, fulfilling all responsibilities of a Lead Teacher or Teacher Assistant.
General Duties:
- Contribute to the development and assessment of program goals and objectives.
- Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues to ensure students receive a quality educational experience.
- Participate in regular meetings with supervisors and attend training sessions as necessary.
- Achieve current CLASS certification within the first year of employment.
- Obtain CDA PD Specialist certification within the first year of employment.
- Support staff in obtaining their CDA as assigned.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding staff, child, and family information.
- Provide in-environment support for classrooms as assigned.
- Monitor staff progress and child outcomes based on assessments and educational readiness goals.
- Assist in onboarding and training new teachers and volunteers; support the education team in planning and executing comprehensive professional development for educational staff.
- Maintain accurate records and provide necessary data and reports.
- Keep up-to-date family and child contact notes in relevant systems.
- Offer guidance and innovative ideas to staff to enhance teaching strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience in mentoring or coaching educators is essential. A strong understanding of early childhood development, curriculum, and assessment tools is necessary. A commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practices is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience in early childhood education, ideally within a Head Start or similar program.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, ChildPlus, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Training in trauma-informed care and practices.
- Experience utilizing technology and digital tools for coaching and professional development.
- Ability to collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain records.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to build relationships with stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must complete required health screenings and immunizations.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check.
Working Conditions:
This role may involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues. It includes travel on highways and rural roads for meetings and training events. Responsibilities may involve handling implements or utensils, use of shared facilities, and potential exposure to communicable diseases. The position requires a mix of desk work, standing for extended periods, and community visits. The ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. is necessary for successful performance in this role.
