Executive Director

We are seeking a highly influential leader to serve as the Executive Director of the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association. This key position will oversee all aspects of the Association, ensuring a strong vision is executed and goals are achieved.

• Support Maui County's visitor industry and employees
• Voice the industry's concerns to government officials and the public
• Support workforce development within the visitor industry
• Maintain and increase the industry's involvement in community efforts

• Attend association meetings, directors meetings, quarterly meetings, and general membership meetings
• Attend and provide comments at HLTA board and membership meetings
• Attend public meetings, County Council meetings, and governmental hearings as directed and share necessary information with members
• Prepare industry position statements as directed
• Establish relationships with Maui County government officials and necessary Hawaii State government officials
• Provide the Board and members with information and input on government issues that affect the visitor industry
• Submit written and oral testimony at State and County Hearings
• Maintain and increase political awareness of members
• Act as a liaison between MHLA and elected officials
• Attend public meetings and hearings where issues affecting the industry will be discussed, providing testimony when appropriate
• Organize gatherings of Association members and political officials to enhance the Association's presence with those officials
• Provide Board recommendations for PAC donations for each election period
• Work with the Communications Director to compose press releases for MHLA events and visitor industry-related issues, acquire information from hotel and association members, develop and prepare monthly E-newsletters, maintain and keep the website current, coordinate events and projects that benefit the community and are visitor industry-related
• Manage the Charitable Year-Round Giving fund
• Increase interaction and communication with existing members, provide networking and added-value opportunities, acquire new members in both the lodging and allied areas, function as liaison between the Board and membership, and periodically assess needed committees or seminars
• Provide direction and supervision to office staff, establish and adhere to annual budgets with the assistance of the Board Treasurer and contracted bookkeeper, and manage all aspects of the business
• Maintain records, including all accounting functions, and work with UH Maui College, High Schools, and ClimbHI to develop workforce development, arrange for seminars and meetings for other hospitality-related items for membership, and manage the MHLA Scholarship program for AOHT students, AOHT alumni, and MHLA Member scholarships
