Position Overview:
The Kitchen Manager oversees all culinary staff and food production at Cafe 13. This role encompasses the establishment of food purchasing standards and the implementation of standardized recipes. The Kitchen Manager is also tasked with upholding the highest standards of food quality and hygiene throughout the establishment. This is a salaried position requiring full-time commitment, with expectations of up to 50 hours per week, including availability on weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of all kitchen personnel, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Conducting interviews and hiring kitchen staff, including line and prep cooks, bakers, and dishwashers.
  • Providing guidance, counseling, and disciplinary actions for kitchen staff; coordinating work schedules to ensure efficient food preparation within budgeted labor costs.
  • Training all kitchen employees, including line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers.
  • Creating weekly kitchen schedules using scheduling software two weeks in advance.
  • Conducting monthly performance reviews with each kitchen employee.
  • Management and Oversight of Kitchen Operations.
  • Maintaining essential documents such as:
    • Order Guide
    • Prep List
    • Recipe Book
    • Maintenance Schedule
    • Inventory Records
  • Placing orders for kitchen ingredients and supplies multiple times per week.
  • Receiving deliveries and ensuring accuracy of items received.
  • Training staff to handle inventory and order placement during days off.
  • Identifying opportunities to minimize waste, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Developing special menu items and new recipes.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and quality of all food served.
  • Leading by example to ensure that all customer interactions are conducted professionally, embodying the values of Cafe 13.
  • Kitchen Cleanliness and Maintenance:
  • Ensuring compliance with hygiene, professionalism, cleanliness, and safety standards as per health regulations; establishing a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule for all kitchen areas and equipment.
  • Ensuring all kitchen equipment is operational and scheduling regular maintenance.
  • Submitting purchase requests for equipment and supplies exceeding $300 to the General Manager.
  • Licensing and Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as scheduling and inventory management systems, Excel, and ordering platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintaining a current ServSafe Certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with arms, and bend.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Understanding the kitchen environment includes risks such as slippery floors and sharp tools, with all necessary precautions taken.


Job Type: Full-time



Compensation: $55,000 - $70,000 annually

Experience Required:

  • 5 years of culinary experience (Required)
