Job Title: Memory Care/Dementia Activity Coordinator

Peachtree Centre, a skilled nursing facility located in Gaffney, SC, is seeking a qualified Activity Director to lead our memory care and dementia activity program.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and creative individual to develop and implement a program of activities that meets the social, emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs of our residents. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a program of activities that meets the needs of our residents, including entertainment, exercise, relaxation, and expression.
  • Plan and coordinate activities both within the facility and outside, ensuring the safety and well-being of each resident.
  • Coordinate and verify assistance for residents as necessary, and maintain detailed records of activity programs and participation.
  • Solicit the involvement of the community in planning facility activities and events.
  • Plan, organize, and direct Activity Department fund-raising events.
  • Participate in resident care planning by identifying activity needs in accordance with medical assessments.
  • Develop and distribute a monthly calendar of events, and maintain a pictorial scrapbook of activities and events.
  • Develop and maintain an active volunteer program, encouraging participation by residents, family members, staff, visitors, and community groups.
Requirements:
  • Meet at least one of the following criteria: degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist, music therapist, or art therapist; certified activity coordinator by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals; two years of experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, with one year full-time in a resident activities program in a healthcare setting; or prior completion of a state-approved training course, with willingness to complete a state-approved training course within six months of employment.
  • Excellent creative and communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals who have cognitive, physical, or sensory disabilities.
  • General knowledge of regulatory requirements for an activity program in a long-term care facility.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm.
  • Experience in working with volunteers and ability to organize and develop a volunteer program.
  • Organization, documentation, and implementation of detailed programs.
