Custodian II

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Custodian II to join our team at the University of Southern Mississippi. As a Custodian II, you will be responsible for performing manual cleaning of assigned buildings, using proper methods and materials, and participating in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of the buildings.

• Perform manual cleaning of assigned buildings, using proper methods and materials, and participating in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of the buildings.
• Operate various types of equipment, including commercial vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vac, backpack blower, auto scrubbers, pressure washer, shower machine, and carpet machines.
• Clean floors, classrooms, bathrooms, and other areas, including sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing floors, cleaning desks and tables, chalkboards, whiteboards, and erasers, and washing windows, walls, blinds, and trash cans.
• Clean and polish brass and stainless steel, and empty trash inside and outside buildings, sweep entrances and outside steps, ramps, and sidewalks, and clean building signs.
• Clean large public areas, such as football stadium, basketball coliseum, baseball stadium, and Bennett Auditorium, and clean areas used for special events on campus before and after the events.
• Unlock buildings and clean other areas as assigned in coverage zones, and respond to emergency situations during and after hours.
• Participate in pre-emergency preparations and post-emergency recovery efforts as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel.

• School diploma or High general education degree (GED).
• Six (6) months of related experience in a higher education setting or commercial cleaning environment.
• Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
• Skill in managing one's own time while completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to listen to, understand, and follow instructions.
• Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
• Ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
• Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
• Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
• Ability to operate personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the internet.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
