The Tire Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of semi-truck and semi-trailer tires, ensuring optimal safety and operational efficiency. The role includes a variety of tasks aimed at maintaining compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections of truck and trailer tires for signs of wear, bulges, cuts, and tread damage.
- Perform repairs on tires exhibiting minor issues that could pose safety risks.
- Safely secure vehicles for lifting to facilitate tire maintenance.
- Remove wheels from vehicles using appropriate tools, including lug wrenches and power equipment.
- Carefully dismount and remount tires and wheels to ensure secure fitting on vehicles.
- Repair or replace tires on various truck sizes, including light, medium, and heavy-duty models.
- Ensure proper installation of wheels and tires, including balancing and fit checks.
- Manage inventory and maintain tire-related equipment.
- Reassemble tires onto wheels with precision.
- Prepare rims and wheel drums for reassembly through cleaning processes such as scraping and sandblasting.
- Dispose of damaged or old tires in compliance with state regulations.
- Verify that tires are functioning correctly and adhere to Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Act standards.
- Utilize tools and equipment safely in a potentially hazardous environment.
- Report safety concerns to management promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Assist mechanics and perform additional tasks as required.
- Possess a valid driver's license for the relevant state.
- Maintain a clean driving record to remain insurable under company policy.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record.
- Successful completion of a 10-panel drug screening.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work.
- Able to work independently without direct supervision.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in the commercial tire sector.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and skills.
