Role Summary:
Caring for residents within the retirement and nursing community, following the guidance of nursing and medical personnel, by executing the following responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following tasks are typical for this role. This list is not exhaustive, and additional responsibilities may be assigned.
• Responds to signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to assess residents' needs.
• Assists residents with bathing, dressing, and undressing.
• Serves and retrieves food trays, providing assistance to residents who require help with eating.
• Aids in transporting residents or assists them in walking.
• Prepares residents for examinations and treatments, providing support such as holding instruments and adjusting lighting.
• Repositions bedbound residents, either independently or with assistance, to prevent pressure sores.
• Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors, and answers phone calls.
• Monitors and records vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates, as directed.
• Cleans, sterilizes, organizes, and prepares dressing packs, treatment trays, and other medical supplies.
• Maintains cleanliness in residents' rooms.
• Ensures that care delivery aligns with the mission and principles of the Catholic faith, including ethical and religious directives and Catholic social teachings.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Education and Experience:
• Certification as a nurse aide in the state of Kansas.
• Preferred: One year of experience in a long-term care environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Language Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken forms in the primary language of the residents.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Cognitive Skills:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Computer Skills:
- Ability to respond to computerized logs and notifications regarding resident calls.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to use general healthcare equipment.
