Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing various manual duties under the direction of the Highway Yard Foreman or his agents. The successful candidate will be able to receive and interpret written and verbal instructions, use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner, and possess a valid Class D Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform miscellaneous skilled and unskilled manual duties, including digging holes, trenches, and other excavations, shoveling materials, and leveling areas.
  • Operate jackhammers and compaction equipment, load and unload materials, and empty barrels.
  • Remove snow and ice using manual or small powered equipment, and spread sand on icy areas.
  • Use small hand tools, such as shovels, picks, axes, saws, and heavy wrenches, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Ability to receive and interpret written and verbal instructions from supervisors.
  • Ability to use tools of trade in a workmanlike manner.
  • Valid Class D Massachusetts motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Safe driving record.
  • Good health and ability to perform hard physical work in extreme weather conditions.
  • Proven history of dependability.
  • Computer literacy or willingness to train on technology used in the performance of the job.
