Job Overview

Position: Mortgage Loan Originator

Location: UT Federal Credit Union


The objective of this role is to enhance the credit union's residential mortgage loan offerings by fostering new and existing connections, guiding prospective borrowers in selecting the most suitable mortgage options, and providing comprehensive support throughout the mortgage journey. This position is dedicated to delivering prompt, professional, and courteous assistance to internal teams, retail branches, and members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver exceptional service to all members; build and sustain positive relationships with members and colleagues; adhere to the credit union's service standards and motivate peers to do the same.
  • Meet or exceed referral and sales targets established by the credit union.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all member information.
  • Contribute to the growth of the credit union's residential mortgage loan portfolio by nurturing new and existing relationships through:
    • Utilizing established connections,
    • Collaborating with local real estate professionals and centers of influence to create lending referral opportunities, and
    • Engaging in community networking events.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the credit union's residential mortgage products to ensure members are matched with the most appropriate options for their financial needs. Stay informed about other credit union offerings to identify cross-selling opportunities that benefit members.
  • Process mortgage and home equity loan applications, which includes:
    • Interviewing applicants and providing guidance on loan options, rates, terms, and collateral requirements,
    • Assessing the applicant's financial status by reviewing necessary information for credit applications,
    • Collaborating with processors to ensure all conditions are met for closing,
    • Managing a pipeline of leads and loans in progress,
    • Communicating loan decisions and conditions to members promptly, and
    • Participating in loan closings.
  • May assist with processing applications for member business loans.
  • Provide Medallion Signature Guarantee and notary services as requested by members.
  • Act as Relationship Manager for assigned accounts, serving as the primary contact for members, which includes onboarding, maintaining relationships, and conducting marketing outreach.
  • Engage in branch and all-staff meetings to stay informed about organizational matters and promotional initiatives; remain updated on policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Attend training sessions to enhance job knowledge and performance, aiming to deliver exceptional service to members. Take initiative for personal career development and seek opportunities to acquire new skills.
  • Other responsibilities may include managing member inquiries, resolving issues, and providing information regarding the credit union's products and services.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Mortgage Development Specialists demonstrate outstanding communication skills by attentively listening to members' needs and offering expert guidance on products and services in a friendly and positive manner to build lasting relationships. They exhibit patience and empathy while being responsive to members and colleagues. Successful Mortgage Development Specialists are organized, capable of thinking on their feet, and comfortable in a sales environment, consistently achieving referral and sales goals. They possess charisma, teamwork spirit, and adaptability in a dynamic setting. They are creative problem solvers and are motivated to take initiative when appropriate.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not entail supervisory responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Exhibit the highest standards of ethical conduct.

  • Promote awareness of the credit union's mission and brand to its members.
  • Comply with the credit union's service standards.
  • Possess knowledge of financial products and services.
  • Adhere to the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (SAFE Act), requiring registration through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).
  • Demonstrate sales proficiency and the ability to meet sales objectives.
  • Exhibit regular and predictable attendance.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional interactions.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in line with the established dress code.
  • Demonstrate technological proficiency, including computer literacy.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Associate's degree; plus one to three years of relevant experience in sales and lending services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
