As a Senior Propulsion Systems Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of passionate experts to deliver advanced liquid rocket engine assemblies and spaceflight hardware. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire product lifecycle, from initial requirements through to final delivery. Our primary objective is to facilitate design evolution and scalable production. Your team will generate new or updated design releases for various components, including primary and secondary structures, heat exchangers, gimbal joints, flexible elements, insulation, and pressurized cryogenic fluid systems. Your work will leverage insights gained from testing and production across multiple Blue Origin facilities.

As part of the team, you will address issues related to non-conforming hardware throughout the production of flight engines. You will also spearhead design enhancements for rocket engine components and assemblies, assisting in the transition to a production environment. Your role will involve driving improvements in design for manufacturability and updating assembly procedures for our flight engines based on root cause analyses, manufacturing experiences, and cost reduction initiatives. You will detail and release modifications within CAD models and drawings, adhering to appropriate configuration management protocols. Success in this role requires the ability to manage multiple technical challenges simultaneously. Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience in advanced mechanical component/system design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Experience in evaluating and resolving issues related to non-conforming hardware.
  • Strong mechanical design capabilities, including initial sizing, analysis, and calculations.
  • Proficiency in CAD and management of large assembly models and configurations (preferably Creo Parametric and Windchill PLM).
  • Familiarity with GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5).
  • Solid understanding of materials, treatments, and manufacturing processes.
  • B.S. degree or higher in an Engineering discipline.
  • Strong intuition and judgment in ambiguous situations requiring rapid decision-making.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
  • Experience in design, production, and assembly across fields such as propulsion, aerospace, automotive, naval, or heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of aerospace materials, treatments, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluids and oxygen compatibility.
  • Familiarity with production quality management systems.
  • Experience in transitioning products from development to production.
