Job Summary:

UTMB Health is seeking a highly skilled Flight Nurse to join our team in Antarctica. As a Flight Nurse, you will be responsible for providing critical care and emergency medical services to patients in a remote and challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate critically ill or injured patients and provide therapeutic interventions, emergency care, and preparation for transport from station, field camps, or accident scenes.
  • Act as primary care attendant for Medevac patients in route to New Zealand, maintaining contact with all involved parties to ensure smooth information flow and patient support.
  • Maintain Medevac supplies and equipment prepared for immediate use, providing nursing services within the McMurdo Station clinic and cross-training to support clinic services as needed.
  • Provide in-patient care when patients have been admitted to the ward, assessing for and detecting changes in patient status and demonstrating a proactive approach to solving patient problems.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all patient encounters, communicating effectively with outside institutions and agencies.
  • Plan, organize, and position equipment and supplies for use in emergency conditions, ensuring all medical equipment is returned properly to the clinic.
  • Collect, compile, and assess clinical and demographic data regarding Medevacs, preparing an annual summary report with recommendations.
  • Perform all physical requirements of the job in confined spaces and under adverse environmental conditions, participating in staff meetings, in-service sessions, and maintenance of educational requirements for nursing certifications.
  • Participate in planning and coordination of Mass Casualty Incident drills, completing transport missions initiated within the timeframe of a work shift, understanding the completion of these missions might require working beyond normal work hours.

Requirements:

  • RN from an accredited professional nursing school.
  • Minimum of four (4) years RN experience, including recent Flight Nursing experience and Critical Care or Emergency Nursing.
  • Must possess and maintain a current nursing license to practice in the United States.
  • Current BCLS and ACLS certification(s).
