Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Librarian I to join our team at the Kansas Judicial Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of professional library tasks, including assisting judges, attorneys, and the general public in obtaining legal information and resources.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the library's collection, including organizing and cataloging resources.
  • Collaborate with a small team of library professionals to ensure successful daily operations of the library.
  • Provide research support to legal professionals and the general public, including locating information manually or using computer technologies.
  • Perform tasks such as checking materials in and out of the library, collecting fees, and reconciling money received.
  • Participate in the supplementing, updating, and maintenance of the library's collection, including moving, digitizing, or eliminating print resources.
  • Serve as acquisitions librarian and reference librarian, and perform other related work as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university supplemented by a master's degree in library science.
  • Knowledge of professional principles, practices, procedures, and techniques of library science and legal research.
  • Knowledge of library computer technologies and their application, including automated library catalog systems.
  • Ability to conduct moderately complex legal research and communicate ideas effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, patrons, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working experience with automated library catalog systems such as Innovative Interfaces or similar systems.
