Position Title: Medication Technician
Objective:
To guarantee the accurate administration of medications in accordance with the directives of each resident's physician and the established Policies and Procedures of the community. To deliver personal care and assist in monitoring the health and environment of residents receiving assisted living services.
Essential Qualifications:
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or prior experience in elder care within a residential or long-term care environment is preferred.
• Valid CNA license or other relevant certification, or the ability to obtain as mandated by state regulations.
• Capability to measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and oxygen saturation, or willingness to learn.
• Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
• A passion for working with senior citizens.
• Ability to build effective relationships with residents, their families, and team members.
• Proficient in reading, comprehending, writing, and speaking English to facilitate effective communication with residents, families, visitors, and colleagues.
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Ability to represent the community positively and professionally.
• Compliance with all health-related requirements as per state licensure.
• Maintenance of current CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Maintenance of current Food Handlers certification.
• Completion of annual Continuing Education Credits.
• Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Successful completion of the required Medication Technician training program.
• Subject to pre-employment evaluations including physical, drug, TB testing, and background checks.
Core Responsibilities:
Medication Management
• Administer medications accurately and punctually in accordance with regulations, physician orders, and community Policies and Procedures.
• Ensure medications are logged, stored appropriately, and refilled timely to maintain availability for residents.
• Adhere to all medication-related policies and procedures, particularly regarding documentation and accountability.
• Conduct monthly audits, including label, expiration, and start date checks.
• Promptly inform supervisors of any issues or concerns regarding orders or medication administration records (MARs).
• Assist licensed nursing staff with printing and reviewing MARs as needed.
• Update MARs in the system with new orders or changes in the absence of a licensed nurse.
• Collaborate with pharmacies and medical offices to secure accurate orders and refills.
• Document observations in resident notes daily within the scope of practice.
• Provide basic first aid as necessary.
• Maintain a clean and organized medication room.
Resident Support
• Review and comprehend individual service plans for all residents.
• Assist residents with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, transferring, and mobility as outlined in their service plans.
• Engage residents in meaningful conversations and social interactions while providing medication supervision and personal care.
• Monitor residents for any changes in their physical, emotional, mental, or social conditions, and report any unusual symptoms or incidents to a licensed nurse or supervisor.
• Communicate with the Resident Care Team regarding any changes in residents' conditions and contact families as necessary.
• Complete all required documentation, including incident reports and computerized records, to ensure effective communication with other shifts and team members.
• Assist with meal service in the dining area, ensuring food is presented attractively and served correctly.
• Encourage resident participation in scheduled activities and outings, providing assistance as needed.
• Provide postmortem care for residents who pass away in the community under hospice care.
• Serve as a role model for team members to ensure high-quality care and monitoring of residents.
Housekeeping Duties
• Make resident beds, empty trash, and tidy resident apartments daily or as requested.
• Turn down resident beds in the evening upon request.
• Change linens and towels according to the community's laundry schedule and as needed.
• Maintain resident clothing and closets in an orderly fashion.
• Assist with resident laundry as necessary.
• Notify housekeeping staff of spills and soiled areas; assist with clean-up as needed.
• Clean resident equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs as required.
• Perform other housekeeping tasks as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
• Attend all mandatory team meetings and training sessions.
• Answer phones courteously and promptly as needed.
• Uphold residents' rights as defined by state regulations and company policy at all times.
• Support and adhere to all company policies and service philosophy.
• Follow the company dress code while on duty.
• Maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
