The Team in Austin, TX is looking for an Environmental Geoscientist
The Environmental Geoscientist will play a crucial role in supporting the successful operations of WSP's Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) sector. Key responsibilities include conducting fieldwork such as site assessments, data gathering, groundwater mapping, and sampling of soil or groundwater. Additional duties involve assisting in the creation of report visuals and drafting environmental reports and proposals. The role may also encompass managing internal projects, including the development of documentation, databases, and qualifications statements. Opportunities may arise to oversee project budgets, subcontractors, and client interactions, as well as to mentor others in technical field operations and related tasks.
Your Contributions
- Execute Phase I and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) alongside fieldwork and data analysis to support Geosciences and Due Diligence initiatives.
- Perform fieldwork and data analysis to assist projects from other Environmental Service Lines (Natural Resources, Regulatory Compliance, Cultural Resources, Storm Water).
- Install groundwater monitoring wells, including well setup, purging, and sampling.
- Gather soil, surface, and groundwater samples.
- Analyze technical data and aid in the preparation of technical documentation.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities on assigned projects.
- Assist in drafting technical proposals and statements of qualifications (SOQs).
- Conduct research and/or assist in site evaluations for proposal preparation.
- Gain knowledge of project financial management principles and assist in overseeing project budgets as necessary.
- Guide and train others in executing technical responsibilities and/or project financial management tasks.
- Provide oversight and management of Health and Safety protocols on field assignments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or Environmental Science; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Three to five (3-5) years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with geological conditions in Texas.
- Comprehensive understanding of Phase I and Phase II ESA requirements.
- Expertise in soil, groundwater, and surface water sampling techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to quickly adapt to WSP's procedures and protocols for Geosciences and Due Diligence work.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and 8-hour refresher.
- Possession of a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the company's automobile insurance standards.
- Strong verbal communication skills for effective interaction with clients, staff, and regulatory agencies.
- Excellent written communication skills for drafting proposals, reports, and technical documents.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Must successfully pass a background check and motor vehicle check.
- Experience or knowledge of TCEQ TRRP, VCP, IOP, and PST programs.
- Experience in construction or contractor oversight.
- Background in remediation or restoration projects.
- Experience outside of Texas is advantageous.
- Skills in business development.
