Database Administrator 1 Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator 1 to join our team at Southeastern Freight Lines. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for designing, installing, monitoring, and maintaining our production databases to ensure high data availability and maximum uptime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Monitor database system details, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving.
  • Install and configure network components to ensure database access and consistency.
  • Monitor, optimize, and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards.
  • Perform database transaction and security audits.
  • Establish end-user database access control levels.
  • Plan and coordinate data migrations between systems.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of experience in database administration and database architecture.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience with Oracle and/or Structured Query Language (SQL) Server.
  • Previous experience with Linux Operating System and performing backup and recovery using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in database administration and database architecture.
  • 7 years of hands-on experience with Oracle and/or Structured Query Language (SQL) Server.
  • Previous hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with database patching and upgrades.
  • Experience with Oracle Active Data Guard.
  • Experience using Jira or other Service Management Software.
  • Working knowledge of SQL+, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) methods, and Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM).
  • Working knowledge of Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM).
