Job Opportunity: Fair Housing Specialist II

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Fair Housing Specialist II. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for fair housing and civil rights, with excellent project management skills and the ability to work independently.

The Fair Housing Center of Northern Alabama is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating housing discrimination, promoting open and diverse communities, and ensuring equal access to affordable housing opportunities for all people in Northern Alabama.

Job Description:

  • We estimate the salary for this role to be around $45,000 - $55,000 per year, based on national averages and industry standards.
  • This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating fair housing testing investigations, recruiting and managing testers, and conducting community outreach and education.
  • The successful candidate will have experience in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, a commitment to excellence, and a passion for fair housing and civil rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and manage a diverse pool of fair housing testers
  • Coordinate systemic audits and complaint-based tests
  • Maintain detailed case records and prepare accurate summaries of findings and recommendations
  • Develop and implement initiatives to engage and retain testers
  • Provide testimony at depositions or trials as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience in housing and/or civil rights
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to strategize, plan, and implement programmatic initiatives
  • Outstanding project management skills
  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive information
