Roving Educational Assistant

This is an itinerant position that will support a variety of educational roles, including:
- TK (Transitional Kindergarten)
- Resource
- Mod Severe (Moderate to Severe)
The successful candidate will provide behavioral support and assist with instructional activities.
Job Description / Essential Elements:This position is responsible for:
- Assisting instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.
- Tutoring individuals and small groups of students to reinforce and follow-up learning activities.
- Monitoring and assisting students in drill, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of concepts by instructional personnel.
- Assisting in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques.
- Preparing instructional materials and learning aids.
- Maintaining records and files, including confidential student records and information.
- Assisting students in the operation of instructional equipment.
- Requisitioning, storing, and maintaining an inventory of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Assisting in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
- Supervising playground activities.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics.
- Knowledge of student behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Knowledge of appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics concepts.
- Knowledge of routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures.
The candidate should be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied ages and ability levels.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English, as required by the assignment.
- Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office-related equipment.
- Use a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures to enhance a positive learning environment.
The physical requirements of this position include:
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Sitting for most of the workday, with occasional standing, walking, or running.
- Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, and manual dexterity to operate business-related equipment.
The Stanislaus Union School District is seeking a candidate with:
- One year of paid or volunteer experience working with multi-age groups of children.
- A twelfth-grade diploma or equivalent.
- A certificate of passing score on the aide proficiency examination.
Additional requirements include:
- Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
- Employment contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result.
