Job Overview

Position Summary: The role of a Studio Potter involves engaging in the creation of pottery, interacting with customers, and conducting wheel workshops.

Key Responsibilities:

Pottery Production:

  • Skillfully throw, hand build, and finish assigned pottery items at our production wheels.
  • Ensure each piece maintains high quality while optimizing production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with master potters and the Lead Trainer to ensure product consistency.
  • Uphold a clean and safe studio environment by following established cleaning protocols.
  • Once adequately trained, manage the loading and unloading of kilns regularly.
  • Participate in various departmental tasks, including glazing and waxing, as needed.

Customer Engagement:

  • Actively engage with customers during open studio hours, addressing inquiries with enthusiasm.
  • Provide insights into the Farmhouse Pottery brand and our production methods.
  • Maintain an organized workspace to enhance the customer experience.

Wheel Workshops:

Conduct personal workshops where participants learn pottery throwing techniques and create their own artisan pieces, which we will finish and ship. Workshops are scheduled twice daily and assigned to our skilled potters.

  • After completing training, lead wheel workshops in accordance with Farmhouse Pottery standards.
  • Prepare and dismantle workshop equipment and materials.
  • Accurately complete workshop documentation and express gratitude through thank-you notes.
  • Trim and finalize workshop creations for kiln processing.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrated throwing experience; candidates will showcase their skills during the interview process.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Stand for extended periods.
  • Navigate throughout the studio, including stairs and outdoor areas.
  • Consistently exert force up to 40 pounds for various tasks.
  • Possess good hand-eye coordination and hand strength.
  • Frequently reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.
  • Bend as necessary to perform tasks.
