Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Early Childhood Mental Health Counselor to join our team at Children and Families First Delaware Inc. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, with a clinical license and experience working with child behavioral and mental health concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide support to the Head Start program team in identifying and securing resources for families experiencing mental health challenges.
  2. Offer expertise through observations, assessments, and consultative support to the program.
  3. Implement interventions for children and families to promote social and emotional development using evidence-based models.
  4. Adhere to an evidence-based social work model, principles, and practices.
  5. Offer on-site staff consultation and meet with Head Start staff members to build understanding and capacity to identify and support children with behavioral and mental health concerns.
  6. Assist the Early Learning team in developing appropriate behavioral strategies to support children with challenging behaviors in the classroom.
  7. Conduct child observations to assess individual needs and the overall classroom environment, and determine if additional mental health support/resources are needed.
  8. Provide parents with education regarding mental health concerns and emotional wellness, and support them in needed mental health interventions.
  9. Document all screenings, assessments, and consultations in the appropriate database.
  10. Prepare and maintain timely documentation, reports, and records in accordance with agency, state accreditation, and other requirements.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field with a clinical license (LCSW, LPCMH, or LMFT).
  • Experience working with child behavioral and mental health concerns, preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of infant and toddler mental health, with preference given to individuals with experience working in collaboration with early education teams.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and/or Creole, preferred.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency's service population.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
