Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist I to join our team at OSF HealthCare. As a Phlebotomist I, you will be responsible for obtaining blood and other specimens from patients in various locations for laboratory testing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Obtain blood and other specimens from patients in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Verify patient identification and prepare skin sites for venipuncture and skin punctures.
  • Label and transport specimens to the laboratory for analysis.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to perform clerical and computer duties associated with the laboratory.
  • Provide timely specimen collection and routing of laboratory specimens.
  • Maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail-oriented.
  • CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT) preferred.
  • 6 months of experience in a team-oriented environment or customer service role.
  • Completion of a formal structured phlebotomy program or 3 months of full-time phlebotomy experience or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record system, such as Epic.
  • Maintain composure while working under pressure and ability to perform job duties with frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
