Job Description

The Nurse Resident will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, focusing on crisis intervention, assessment, and treatment planning. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 18-month minimum commitment to SMA Healthcare once licensed
  • Assessing situations and using sound judgment in applying assistance in medical and psychiatric crises within the scope of practice
  • Handling verbal and/or physically abusive, aggressive clients utilizing Mandt techniques to ensure safety
  • Performing client screening for Baker Act, Marchman Act, and internal program criteria
  • Creating initial treatment plans in electronic medical records
  • Maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment according to SMA Healthcare's Safety/Risk Management Plan and agency-approved crisis intervention techniques

Requirements

  • Graduate of Associate of Science in nursing degree program
  • Obtain an ATT letter to sit for licensure exam in the state of Florida with authorization to practice
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification

  • Proof of personal automobile insurance if the position requires you to drive your own vehicle for SMA business (does not include incidental use)
  • Complete State of Florida mandatory level 2 background screening prior to start of employment if direct contact with children/adolescents, vulnerable adults, or the developmentally disabled may be involved
  • Complete Mandt training, CPR, First Aid, and HIV/AIDS training before beginning direct client care
