Position Overview

The Sherwin-Williams Retail Management Trainee Program is a fast-tracked, entry-level opportunity aimed at equipping current team members for a managerial role within a retail environment in a span of 18-24 months. Embracing Sherwin-Williams' commitment to internal promotions, you will have the chance to advance into a managerial position upon successful completion of the initial training phase.

This role typically requires a commitment of 44 hours per week, which may include evening and weekend shifts.

Throughout the program, you will work closely with store leadership to manage a substantial retail operation, providing guidance and strategic insights into the store's development. You will gain comprehensive knowledge of all operational aspects, customer interactions, and internal strategies, enabling you to understand your vital contribution to the team's achievements. Your efforts will help expand the company's market presence by engaging with large commercial clients, including contractors, purchasing agents, and manufacturers who require significant quantities of our premium products.

- Foster positive relationships with both wholesale and retail clients.

- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, including safety, loss prevention, and security measures.

- Maintain exemplary store conditions and visual merchandising standards, including promotional displays and sales floor arrangements.

- Assist in employee training, development, performance management, and corrective actions as needed.

- Address and resolve any customer or employee concerns promptly.

- Collaborate with the Store Manager to conduct external sales outreach to enhance market share.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without requiring sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Driver's License.
  • Must have at least a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 70 lbs. occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • If currently employed by Sherwin-Williams, must have received a performance rating of at least "meets expectations" on the most recent appraisal.
  • If currently employed by Sherwin-Williams, must have completed all required HR Cloud eLearning courses for the current position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a retail, sales, or customer service role.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a leadership capacity, supervising others or leading teams.
  • Previous experience in selling paint and related products is advantageous.
  • Experience with timekeeping and/or customer relationship management (CRM) systems is preferred.
  • An associate degree or higher in business, sales, or marketing is desirable.
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment, including work, extracurricular activities, or military service.
  • Willingness to relocate for future career opportunities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language is a plus.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in Spanish is beneficial.
